Currency and Exchange Rate

Egypt’s currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). As at 11 May 2017, one USD was equal to EGP 18.07, which was down from the previous dollar peg of EGP 8.88 before November 2016, when the government allowed the pound to float freely.[38] This decoupling of the pound from the dollar is expected to attract more investors, who with tourists are a key source of hard currency.[39]
